Disney World Height Requirements: Every Ride + Height Calculator

Last verified: August 28, 2026. This guide is built around Walt Disney World’s current published height rules. Disney can change attraction requirements, operating status, names and procedures, so always check the sign at the attraction entrance and Disney’s official app/site on the day you visit.

Fast answer: Most Walt Disney World attractions are available at any height. The major thresholds that unlock additional rides are 32, 35, 38, 40, 42, 44 and 48 inches. Tomorrowland Speedway has a special rule: a child must be at least 32 inches to ride, and a Guest must be at least 54 inches to drive alone.

The Barnstormer at Walt Disney World
      35″ minimum

      The Barnstormer

A junior coaster and the lowest traditional coaster threshold in the four theme parks. A child at 35 inches meets the published minimum; shorter children cannot board.

Does Disney World have weight limits?

No. Walt Disney World does not have weight limits for its theme-park attractions. Disney’s planDisney guidance confirms there are no weight restrictions for the rides. What can matter on some attractions is whether the required safety restraint can close and secure properly.

That means you do not need a weight chart for Disney World rides. If you are concerned about fit on a specific attraction, ask a Cast Member before entering the queue. Attractions with more specialized seating or restraints—such as TRON Lightcycle / Run, Avatar Flight of Passage, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Space Mountain—may feel tighter for some Guests even though there is no weight limit.

Simple answer: Disney World rides do not have weight limits. Height requirements and safe restraint fit are what matter.

      How Disney measures children

The measurement that matters is the one taken by Disney at the attraction. A child who is very close to a minimum can be measured at the entrance and may be measured again before boarding. Shoes should be normal park shoes; do not count on thick soles, hairstyles, hats or standing on tiptoe to change the result. For planning, use the child’s honest barefoot/normal-shoe height and build the day so a borderline measurement does not ruin the park plan.

If a child is exactly at a threshold at home, treat the ride as a “maybe,” not a promise. Have another nearby attraction ready in case the Cast Member’s measurement differs from yours.

Rider Switch: what to do when one child is too short

Disney’s Rider Switch lets eligible parties take turns so an adult can stay with a child or Guest who cannot ride while the rest of the group experiences the attraction. After the first group rides, the waiting adult can ride without waiting through the full standby queue again. Disney currently lists Rider Switch at many of the major height-restricted attractions, including The Barnstormer, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Tomorrowland Speedway, TRON, Guardians, Mission: SPACE, Soarin’, Test Track, Alien Swirling Saucers, Smugglers Run, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Slinky Dog Dash, Star Tours, Rise of the Resistance, Tower of Terror, Flight of Passage, Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids.

What can a 35-inch child ride?

At 35 inches, a child meets the published minimum for The Barnstormer and also meets the 32-inch minimum for Alien Swirling Saucers. At Tomorrowland Speedway, the child can ride only with a driver who is at least 54 inches. All “any height” attractions are also available, subject to normal boarding and safety requirements.

      What unlocks at 38 inches?

At 38 inches, the list grows significantly: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Slinky Dog Dash and Kali River Rapids join the rides already available at 32/35 inches.

      What unlocks at 40 inches?

Forty inches is one of the biggest Disney World milestones. It adds Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Mission: SPACE, Soarin’ Across America, Test Track, Star Tours, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Tower of Terror.

What unlocks at 42, 44 and 48 inches?

At 42 inches, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind becomes available. At 44 inches, Space Mountain, Avatar Flight of Passage and Expedition Everest become available. At 48 inches, the child meets the published minimum for TRON Lightcycle / Run and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. At 54 inches, a Guest may drive alone on Tomorrowland Speedway.

Any-height does not always mean “good for every child”

“Any height” means there is no minimum-height rule; it does not mean every child will enjoy the experience. Haunted Mansion can be dark and spooky, Pirates of the Caribbean includes darkness and a small drop, Frozen Ever After has backward movement and a drop, and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway contains loud effects and motion. Parents should consider fear level, sensory sensitivity and motion tolerance separately from height.

Bonus: Disney water park height rules

Disney’s official height page also publishes rules for Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Water parks are different because several children’s areas use a maximum height rather than a minimum.

How to build a no-disappointment ride plan

      1. Measure each child before the trip and write the number down in inches.
      2. Use the calculator above to identify the rides each child clearly qualifies for.
      3. Mark borderline rides separately if the child is within about half an inch of the minimum.
      4. For every borderline ride, choose an alternate attraction nearby.
      5. Use Rider Switch when one child cannot ride but adults or taller siblings still want to.
      6. Re-check Disney’s official height page shortly before the trip because requirements and attraction lineups can change.
Bottom line: Height is the published numeric restriction Disney uses on these attractions. Disney World rides do not have weight limits. Meeting the height minimum does not override other health, mobility, boarding or restraint requirements.
