Amazon Resale guide to used and open-box deals on Amazon
Amazon Resale is the current name for the program many shoppers still know as Amazon Warehouse.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

If you have ever seen an Amazon product with a little “Save with Used” option hiding under the regular price, that is where some of Amazon’s best overlooked deals live. The program most shoppers still call Amazon Warehouse is now officially called Amazon Resale. Same basic idea: Amazon takes qualifying returned, used, pre-owned or open-box merchandise, inspects it, grades the condition, and sells it for less than a new copy.

I like Amazon Resale because the discount is often based on something I personally do not care about—a dented box, damaged packaging, a missing non-essential accessory, or a little cosmetic wear. But this is not one of those deals where I would blindly click Buy Now because the percentage-off badge looks huge. The condition note matters, the price difference matters, the missing pieces matter, and the return window matters. This guide walks through all of it.

The Bottom Line: Is Amazon Warehouse / Amazon Resale Worth It?

Yes—when the discount is big enough to justify the condition. Amazon says customers saved an average of more than 25% on Amazon Resale items in the prior year. That does not mean every Resale listing is 25% cheaper, and it definitely does not mean every Resale offer is automatically a good deal. Sometimes the used price is only a few dollars below new. Other times a damaged box or minor cosmetic mark can knock a surprisingly large amount off.

My quick rule: I want the savings to pay me for the risk. If a $100 item is only $4 cheaper used, I usually buy new. If the same item is $25, $35 or $50 cheaper and the condition note only mentions packaging damage, that gets my attention.
Old name Amazon Warehouse / Amazon Warehouse Deals
Current name Amazon Resale
What it sells Quality used, pre-owned and open-box products at reduced prices
Who checks the condition? Amazon says products are inspected and graded before being offered through Resale
Condition levels Like New, Very Good, Good and Acceptable
Electronics Amazon says electronics are powered on, tested and factory-reset during evaluation
Returns Amazon Resale products are generally returnable within 30 days, subject to Amazon’s return-policy exceptions
Best reason to shop it Get a functional product for less when you do not care about perfect packaging or minor cosmetic wear

Wait—Did Amazon Warehouse Change Its Name?

Yes. Amazon Warehouse is now Amazon Resale. You will still see people call it Amazon Warehouse, Amazon Warehouse Deals, Amazon open-box deals, or even “the used section.” Those older names are still useful when searching Google because shoppers used them for years, but on Amazon itself the current storefront is Amazon Resale.

This is also why older tutorials can be confusing. If somebody tells you to look for “Amazon Warehouse” in a menu and you cannot find it, you are probably not missing anything. Look for Amazon Resale or the Save with Used option on an individual product page.

What Exactly Is Amazon Resale?

Amazon Resale is Amazon’s discounted storefront for qualifying products that are not being sold as brand-new merchandise. A lot of the inventory comes from customer returns. A product may have been opened, the retail box may be damaged, the item may show some use, or accessories may be missing. Amazon says returned products are evaluated and qualifying items can be given a second life through Resale instead of being treated as new merchandise.

Amazon’s current Resale selection spans a lot more than cheap little household items. Amazon specifically lists categories such as computers, tablets, Amazon devices, unlocked phones, TVs, furniture, kitchen appliances, lawn and garden, home improvement, sports and outdoor gear, cameras and pet supplies. Inventory is constantly changing because it depends on what is available in a resellable condition.

Important: “Used” does not automatically mean “beat up.” A Resale item can be classified Like New and work perfectly while the only obvious problem is damaged packaging. At the other end, an Acceptable item can have clear wear, dents or missing pieces. That is why the exact condition note is more important than the word “used.”

Where Do Amazon Warehouse Deals Come From?

Amazon Resale savings guide showing inspection, savings and return considerations
The best Resale deal is not simply the lowest price—compare the current new price, condition note, missing accessories and return terms.

A common assumption is that every customer return automatically becomes an Amazon Warehouse deal. That is not how Amazon describes the process. Returned merchandise can take different paths. Some items may meet Amazon’s standard to be sold again as new, some may be returned to a selling partner, some may be resold as used through Amazon Resale, and others may be repaired, liquidated, donated or recycled depending on condition.

For items that qualify for Resale, Amazon says it performs a second inspection and provides a condition description. For electronics, Amazon says the evaluation includes powering the device on, testing it and factory-resetting it. That does not make Resale the same thing as Amazon Renewed—more on that difference below—but it is a lot more reassuring than buying a mystery open box with no description at all.

How to Find Amazon Warehouse Deals / Amazon Resale Deals

There are two main ways I look for them.

Method 1: Browse the Amazon Resale storefront

Go straight to Amazon Resale and browse by category or search for the exact thing you need. This is the easiest method when you are deal hunting without one exact model in mind—say you just need a coffee maker, monitor, air fryer or set of tools and you are willing to compare a few brands.

Method 2: Check the normal product page for “Save with Used”

Amazon Resale Like New Very Good Good and Acceptable condition grades
Amazon Resale uses four main condition grades: Like New, Very Good, Good and Acceptable.

This is my favorite method when I already know the exact product I want. Open the normal Amazon product page and look for language such as Save with Used or Buy Used. If a Resale copy is available, Amazon may show the used price and let you open the offer details to see the condition.

This is also where comparison gets easy: you can see the new offer and the Resale offer for the same ASIN without comparing two completely different models.

Amazon Resale Condition Grades Explained

This is the part I would read before the price. Amazon uses four main Resale grades. The wording below is simplified into normal shopping language, but the important details come from Amazon’s current condition descriptions.

Condition What Amazon says you can expect How I think about it
Like New Perfect working condition; essential accessories complete; packaging may have damage. My favorite grade. If the discount is good and the note is mostly about the box, this can be an easy win.
Very Good Fully functional with limited use and minor cosmetic imperfections. Packaging may be damaged/replaced and some non-essential accessories may be missing. Usually a strong value if the missing accessory is something I do not need.
Good Fully functional but may show wear from moderate use and minor cosmetic damage. Valuable accessories can be missing. Read every word. The discount needs to cover cosmetic wear plus the cost of anything missing.
Acceptable Main function works, but clear signs of use can include scratches, dents and worn edges. Valuable accessories/components can be missing. Potentially the biggest bargain, but this is where I slow down and calculate the real cost.

Which Amazon Resale condition is best?

If two used copies are close in price, I normally pay a little more for the better grade. Saving another $4 is not exciting if it moves me from Like New to Good and adds visible wear or a missing charger. On the other hand, if the condition difference saves $40 and the missing part costs $8, the lower grade may be the smarter buy.

Do not stop at the grade—read the individual condition note

Two products can both say “Very Good” and still have very different reasons. One may say the packaging is damaged. Another may say there is a scratch on the front and an accessory is missing. I care much more about the sentence explaining why it got the grade than the grade by itself.

My Amazon Resale Money-Saving Strategy

If I am trying to get the best deal instead of simply the lowest used price, this is the checklist I use.

  1. Find the exact product first. Do not buy a worse model just because its Resale percentage looks bigger.
  2. Write down the current new price. The new price today is what the used offer has to beat—not an old list price.
  3. Compare the Resale price with the new price in dollars. “20% off” sounds nice, but I want to know whether I am saving $6 or $60.
  4. Read the condition reason. Packaging damage is very different from a missing power adapter.
  5. Price any missing accessory. If a charger costs $25, subtract that from your apparent savings.
  6. Decide what cosmetic damage is worth to you. I will tolerate a scratch on the bottom of an appliance much more than a scratch across a monitor.
  7. Check the return terms before ordering. Resale items are generally covered by Amazon’s return policy, but some product categories have exceptions.
  8. Inspect and test it immediately after delivery. Do not let an open-box electronic sit unopened until the return period is almost gone.
The real savings formula:
New price − Resale price − cost of missing accessories − value you place on cosmetic wear = your actual bargain.

How Much Can You Save With Amazon Warehouse Deals?

There is no fixed Amazon Resale discount. Amazon says customers saved an average of more than 25% on Resale products in the previous year, but individual offers can be much smaller or much larger depending on the item, condition and current new price.

This is why I do not build an article like this around a static list of “today’s Warehouse prices.” Those prices can disappear fast because a specific condition offer may represent only one available unit. For evergreen savings, the better lesson is how to judge the deal when you see it.

How big should the discount be?

Situation What I would usually want
Like New, only packaging damage A modest discount can make sense because the actual product may be nearly untouched.
Very Good with light cosmetic wear I want a clearly noticeable discount, not just a token few dollars.
Good with visible wear or missing accessory The discount should comfortably exceed the replacement cost and inconvenience.
Acceptable I want a substantial discount, especially on something I will look at or touch every day.
Expensive electronics I want enough savings to compensate for warranty uncertainty, condition risk and the hassle of a return.

What Types of Products Are Best to Buy From Amazon Resale?

I think Amazon Resale shines most when the product’s function is easy to verify and cosmetic perfection is not important.

  • Tools and home-improvement equipment: A scuffed case or damaged box often does not matter if the tool itself works and the required battery/charger is included.
  • Kitchen appliances: Air fryers, mixers, coffee makers and similar products can be good candidates when the condition note is clear and you test them right away.
  • Computer accessories: Keyboards, mice, docks, stands and some monitors can offer solid savings, especially if the defect is only packaging.
  • Furniture and home items: If you already expect normal wear, a Resale discount can be more attractive than paying new price for perfect packaging.
  • Amazon devices and consumer electronics: The discounts can be excellent, but I pay closer attention to warranty, battery health, included accessories and return terms.
  • Seasonal and specialty gear: Products people buy for one project or event and return can sometimes show up in useful open-box condition.

What Would I Be More Careful Buying Used?

I would not call these automatic “never buy” categories because the exact product and condition matter. But I raise my standards for the following:

  • Products where hygiene matters: If the idea of somebody else opening or trying the item bothers you, the discount is probably not worth it.
  • Safety-critical gear: Anything where hidden wear could affect safety deserves extra caution and may be better purchased new from an authorized source.
  • Battery-heavy products: A device can function normally while still having battery wear. Do not assume “works” means the battery is equivalent to new.
  • Gifts: Like New can still have damaged packaging. If presentation matters, read the packaging note carefully.
  • Products with expensive proprietary accessories: A missing remote, mount, charger, adapter or specialty cable can erase your savings quickly.
  • Items where manufacturer warranty is important: Manufacturer warranties may not apply in every situation, so verify coverage instead of assuming a used purchase carries the same warranty as new.

What to Do the Day Your Amazon Resale Item Arrives

This is probably the most important part of the whole guide after checking the condition note. Open it and test it. Do not buy a discounted monitor, drill, coffee machine or tablet and leave it sealed in the garage for three weeks.

  1. Compare the model number to what you ordered.
  2. Check every accessory that the condition note says should be included.
  3. Look for damage that was not described.
  4. Power it on and test the main functions.
  5. For electronics, test ports, charging, buttons, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and anything else you will actually use.
  6. For appliances, run a normal cycle while you still have plenty of time to return it.
  7. Keep the shipping box and packaging until you know you are keeping the item.
  8. If the condition is materially worse than described, start the return instead of convincing yourself to live with a bad deal.

Can You Return Amazon Warehouse / Amazon Resale Items?

Yes. Amazon’s current Resale condition page says Amazon Resale products are shipped by Amazon and can be returned within 30 days. Amazon’s broader return policy has exceptions depending on the type of product, so I still recommend checking the return information shown on the exact item before buying.

There is one important difference from buying a common new item: a Resale copy is often unique. If your particular Like New item has to go back, Amazon may not have another copy in the exact same condition at the exact same price. Amazon specifically notes that an exact-condition replacement may not be available.

Do Amazon Resale Items Have a Warranty?

This is an area where I would never assume. A 30-day return policy is not the same thing as a manufacturer warranty. Amazon’s warranty guidance says manufacturer warranties may not apply in every case depending on the product, how it was purchased and other factors.

If you are buying something expensive because you expect a one-, two- or five-year manufacturer warranty, verify that warranty before buying the Resale copy. On a $25 household item I may not care. On a $1,000 piece of electronics, warranty status can absolutely change whether the used discount is worth it.

Do You Need Amazon Prime to Buy Amazon Resale?

Amazon Resale is not simply a Prime-only clearance club. You can shop the Resale storefront without treating Prime membership as the thing that creates the used discount. Shipping speed and shipping cost still depend on the exact item, order and your account benefits, so check what Amazon shows at checkout.

Amazon Resale vs. Amazon Renewed: What Is the Difference?

These two get mixed up constantly, but I would not treat them as interchangeable.

  Amazon Resale Amazon Renewed
Main idea Used, pre-owned and open-box merchandise graded by condition Pre-owned/refurbished products professionally inspected and tested to meet Renewed requirements
Condition choices Like New, Very Good, Good, Acceptable Designed around products that work and look like new under the Renewed program
Return/guarantee structure Generally Amazon’s 30-day return framework, subject to exceptions Most Renewed items currently include a 90-day return period; certain Premium/Automotive categories have longer coverage
Best for Shoppers willing to accept packaging/cosmetic differences for a lower price Shoppers who want a refurbished product meeting the Renewed program’s standards

If I am buying a cheap open-box kitchen gadget, Resale may make more sense. If I am buying an expensive refurbished phone and the Renewed protections are important to me, I compare both before deciding.

Amazon Resale vs. Amazon Outlet

Amazon Outlet is mainly about overstock and clearance inventory. Amazon Resale is about quality used, returned, pre-owned or open-box inventory. That difference matters if you want a discount but do not want a used product.

Program Why it is discounted
Amazon Resale Used, returned, pre-owned or open-box condition
Amazon Renewed Professionally inspected/tested refurbished or pre-owned products meeting Renewed standards
Amazon Outlet Overstock and clearance merchandise

Is Every Used Item on Amazon an Amazon Resale Item?

No. Amazon’s marketplace can contain used offers from third-party sellers too. If you specifically want the Amazon Resale experience, read the offer details and look at who is selling and shipping the item. Amazon’s own Resale examples show offers labeled as sold by Amazon Resale and shipped from Amazon.

Do Not Compare a Resale Price Only to the List Price

This is one of my biggest money-saving rules. A used item can look like an incredible percentage-off bargain when compared with a high list price, while the brand-new item is currently on sale too. Compare used price vs. today’s new price, not just used price vs. MSRP.

If you use a price-history tracker such as Keepa or CamelCamelCamel, use the exact ASIN so you know you are comparing the same model. Historical used-offer data may not be as complete as new-price history, but a price chart can still tell you whether the new item routinely drops low enough that waiting would make more sense than buying used today.

Can Amazon Coupons or Promotions Stack With Resale?

Do not assume they will. Amazon promotions can have seller, condition and product restrictions. A coupon shown for the new offer does not automatically mean the same discount applies to a Resale offer. The only number I trust is the final checkout total for the exact used offer I selected.

Why Do Amazon Resale Deals Disappear So Fast?

Resale inventory is frequently one-off or limited. There may be one Like New return and two Good copies of a product—and once those particular units sell, that exact price is gone. Amazon itself tells shoppers that Resale inventory changes frequently and recommends acting quickly when they find something they want.

That does not mean you should panic-buy. It means you should know your target product and target price ahead of time. If the deal meets your number, the condition note is acceptable and the return terms work for you, then you can make a decision without spending 45 minutes starting your research from scratch.

15 Ways to Get Better Amazon Warehouse Deals

  1. Search both “Amazon Warehouse” and “Amazon Resale” when researching. Older deal guides still use the old name.
  2. Check the normal product page even if you never visit the Resale homepage. The Save with Used option can be easy to miss.
  3. Compare every available condition. Sometimes Like New is only a couple dollars above Good.
  4. Favor packaging damage over product damage. I would rather buy a perfect appliance in an ugly box than a pretty box containing a scratched appliance.
  5. Calculate missing-accessory cost before ordering.
  6. Compare against the current new sale price.
  7. Use the exact model/ASIN when checking price history.
  8. Be more demanding on expensive electronics.
  9. Be flexible on cosmetic condition for garage, workshop and utility items.
  10. Check again later if the current used offer is weak. Inventory changes constantly.
  11. Do not assume the lowest condition is the best value. Value is price plus condition.
  12. Test everything immediately after delivery.
  13. Keep packaging until you are sure the item works.
  14. Read warranty details on expensive purchases.
  15. Let the checkout page be the final word on shipping, discounts and total cost.

Is Amazon Warehouse / Amazon Resale Legit—or Is It One of Those “Amazon Pallet” Scams?

Amazon Resale itself is legitimate and lives inside Amazon’s official shopping site/app. Do not confuse it with random social-media ads claiming you can buy a mystery “Amazon pallet” or undelivered package for a ridiculous price. If a deal is supposedly from Amazon, I would rather navigate to Amazon directly than trust a strange link in a text, Facebook ad or email.

Amazon’s own scam guidance says to verify activity directly through Amazon.com or the Amazon app and warns shoppers to trust Amazon-owned channels instead of being pressured into payments elsewhere.

Amazon Warehouse / Amazon Resale FAQ

What happened to Amazon Warehouse?

Amazon renamed the program Amazon Resale. Older pages and shoppers may still call it Amazon Warehouse or Amazon Warehouse Deals.

Is Amazon Resale the same as Amazon Warehouse?

For shoppers looking for the old Amazon Warehouse used/open-box program, Amazon Resale is the current name and destination.

Are Amazon Resale products customer returns?

Many can be returned merchandise, but “customer return” does not describe every possible source or path. Amazon evaluates returned items and qualifying products may be resold through Resale; other returns can take different paths.

Are Amazon Resale items tested?

Amazon says it conducts a thorough inspection and provides a condition description. For electronic items, Amazon says it powers them on, tests them and factory-resets them as part of the evaluation.

Does Like New mean the box is perfect?

No. Amazon says a Like New item can be in perfect working condition with essential accessories complete while the packaging still has damage.

Can Very Good Amazon Resale items have missing accessories?

Yes. Amazon says Very Good items may be missing some non-essential accessories, and the missing accessory should be identified in the individual condition description.

Can Good or Acceptable items be missing important parts?

Yes. Amazon’s condition descriptions say Good and Acceptable items can be missing valuable accessories or parts, and in some cases the item may not be usable until those parts are purchased separately. Read the exact condition note.

Can I return an Amazon Resale item?

Amazon’s current Resale condition page states that Resale products can be returned within 30 days. Product-specific exceptions can apply under Amazon’s general return policy.

Can Amazon replace my Resale item?

Do not count on an identical replacement. Each used/open-box unit can be unique, and Amazon says the exact same condition may not be available even if something similar is in stock.

Are Amazon Resale items shipped by Amazon?

Amazon’s Resale condition page says Amazon Resale products are shipped by Amazon.

Do Amazon Resale items qualify for Prime shipping?

Shipping benefits depend on the exact offer and your account. Check the delivery terms shown for the item rather than assuming every used offer has identical shipping.

Are Amazon Resale items cleaned?

Amazon describes an inspection/testing process, but I would not interpret a condition grade as a blanket promise that every type of used product has been cleaned to whatever personal standard you expect. For hygiene-sensitive items, be especially selective.

Do electronics come factory reset?

Amazon says electronic items are powered on, tested and factory-reset as part of its Resale evaluation.

Does an Amazon Resale item have the manufacturer warranty?

Do not assume it does. Amazon says manufacturer warranties may not apply in all cases. Verify warranty coverage for the exact product if it matters to your purchase.

Can I use Amazon gift cards on Resale purchases?

Amazon Resale purchases take place through Amazon’s normal shopping environment. Your available payment methods are shown at checkout; if you specifically plan to use a gift-card balance, confirm the exact order is eligible before placing it.

Can I use coupons on Amazon Resale?

Sometimes promotions have condition or seller restrictions, so never assume a coupon attached to a new offer will apply to a used offer. Check the final checkout total.

Can Amazon Resale prices change?

Absolutely. Inventory and prices can change frequently, and a specific condition offer may disappear after a single unit sells.

Can I buy Amazon Resale as a gift?

You can buy used/open-box products, but I would stick to Like New and carefully read packaging notes if presentation matters. “Like New” does not guarantee pristine retail packaging.

Is Acceptable condition bad?

Not automatically. Amazon says Acceptable still serves its main function, but clear wear and missing parts are possible. It can be a great utility purchase at the right price and a terrible deal at the wrong price.

Is Amazon Resale better than Amazon Renewed?

Neither is automatically better. Resale is great for condition-based open-box savings; Renewed is a different refurbished/pre-owned program with its own quality requirements and return/guarantee structure. Compare the exact product, price and protections.

Is Amazon Outlet the same thing?

No. Amazon Outlet focuses on overstock and clearance deals. Amazon Resale focuses on used, pre-owned and open-box products.

Why is the Resale discount sometimes tiny?

Used pricing and new pricing can move independently. If the new item goes on sale, the gap can shrink. That is why I always compare the Resale offer to the current new price.

Why did the Amazon Warehouse deal in my cart disappear?

The particular used unit may have sold or its availability may have changed. Resale inventory is limited and changes frequently.

What if the product arrives worse than the description?

Document the condition, check the order details and use Amazon’s return/customer-service process while you are within the applicable return window.

My 30-Second Amazon Resale Deal Check

Before I buy, I ask:
  • Is this the exact model I wanted?
  • What is the new price right now?
  • How many actual dollars am I saving?
  • What exactly is wrong with the Resale copy?
  • Is anything missing, and what would it cost to replace?
  • Do I care about the cosmetic damage?
  • Does warranty coverage matter on this product?
  • Can I test it immediately and return it if necessary?

If those answers look good, Amazon Resale can be one of the easiest ways to cut the price without downgrading to a cheaper model. I especially like the deals where the “problem” is something I was going to throw away anyway—the box.
